Themes for the week
Day 1 - Lift Off
Summary of Story:
- The mission is given, the journey begins – Lift Off
We want children to know that:
- God has created us and gives us a life. (We are given a mission)
- We have instructions from God about how to live. ( Mission instructions)
- We can't do anything we like – we should let God control our lives. (Accept the commands of mission control)
Day 2 - You'll Be Sorry
Summary of Story:
- Soon after the journey begins, the astronaut disregards the mission, enticed by explorations that seem more exciting.
We want children to know that:
- It is possible to lose sight of what God wants for us and go our own way. (Gradually losing touch with mission control)
- Disobeying God is called sin. (Ignoring mission control's instructions)
- We should do as God tells us. ( Mission control knows best)
Day 3 - Jess Knight's Night of Terror
Summary of Story:
- Because the astronaut has ignored his proper mission, he gets into a real mess and everything starts to go wrong. He puts himself in real danger.
We want children to know that:
Sin has consequences, some of which are as follows:-
- It can cause us to lose touch with God. (Base, mission control)
- Spending time and resources on the wrong things, means that we won't have them for God. (Run out of fuel, oxygen, food)
- Disobeying God gives Satan a foothold in our lives and will endanger us. (Alien monsters)
- We may go so far our own way that we find it too hard to come back. (Being sucked into a black hole)
Day 4 - The Great Black Sucker In The Sky!
Summary of Story:
- Mission control sends out a rescue craft, at great risk and cost to themselves. The master controller sends the principal astronaut personally who, after securing the rescue, gets sucked into the black hole.
We want children to know that:
- God will never give up on us even though we sin. (Base resolves to rescue the astronaut)
- God sent Jesus as a way for us to be rescued. (Principal astronaut)
- It was very costly for God to do this – a very great sacrifice. (The principal astronaut is killed/sucked into the black hole)
Day 5 - Second Chance – A New Mission
Summary of Story:
- The astronaut returns, expecting infamy, demotion and a roasting from the Master Controller. He is received with joy and instead of demotion is given another chance to pilot a bigger, even better spacecraft. The principal astronaut was alive after all – the only person ever to have survived a black hole.
We want children to know that:
- If we return to God, even after we have sinned, God will accept us back. ( Mission control throws a party)
- Jesus died, but came back to life. (Principal Astronaut goes through black hole and returns)
- We are given a special mission and a new adventure as forgiven people. (New adventure, better spacecraft)
